Purple Lab Hearts Social Media! Twips for Tweeting!

Remember Dee, our Social Media Maven? She is also our Chief Tweet Officer, YouTube whisperer, and Facebook queen… She’s the one who is always finding new tricks of the social media trade and giving us intra-office lessons every week. And we could not imagine a day online without her.

This is her homage to Twitter… BTW, soft plug – please follow us on Twitter if you’re not!

So, you guys already know that I’m Purple Lab’s Social Media Chanteuse (again, sick title) but do you really know what I do?

My job is to interact with our fans, friends, and twiends across all social networking sites. I use Twitcam at our events (Facebook’s UStream too). I Tweet the craziness that ensues in our office/Karen and Todd’s apartment. I share blog posts, PL news, but also things we love in general: something Kate Moss says (remember her famous line – “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”? Such a genius Twitter moment!), an RT from Tony Hsieh (Zappos CEO who is so genius, we read everything the man suggests), and anything from FakeKarl (literally Fake Karl Lagerfeld – his Twitter page has a mug shot image of the kaiser and he tweets with FakeAnna at Fashion Week and speaks of dinners with Alber Elbaz and models who don’t eat).

Of all of the social networks – and we’re on all of them – I have to be honest and say that Twitter is my favorite. There’s something so addictive about talking to people all over the world in real time, in half sentences, with three letter abbreviations.

And frankly, it has become my prime news source – it’s where I heard about the recent airport mayhem, MJ’s passing (R.I.P., MJ), and that Jennifer Lopez had a new song about red soled shoes. And, um, it’s where I heard that @Nasa (yes, that Nasa) found water on Mars. But they didn’t twitpic! Dammit!

Word spreads on Twitter faster than a gossip ring of mean girls in high school.

OMG! Tell me Twitter shouldn’t do a reality show called “So You Think You Can Tweet?” Ashton would so be the best judge. And you’d have to tweet who your favorites are instead of using a 1-800 number.

We’ve made friends on Twitter outside of the 2-D world of the internet. (Shout out to LALupusLady!). We reply to everyone and anyone who tweets us. And we listen.

Listening is the key to all Twitter action. I’ve seen so many brands just spew out their “messages” and, really, does anyone just want to hear controlled marketing points? I don’t think so.

I think of Twitter like one big date – it’s a conversation, a two-way street. I want to hear what our twiends are saying in addition to sharing myself. I want our conversations to be relevant, meaningful, authentic. And 9 out of 10 of our Tweets are not even about us – because, come on, would you want to be out with a guy who speakds only of himself 90% of the time?

Thought so…

I think the reason I heart Tweeting from Purple Lab – and let the record reflect that all of us at the company use it and because we have common tastes and interested and obsessions, our tweets never sound disjointed – is because of the brand’s personality.

It’s fun. It’s sexy. It’s fearless. It’s empowered. It’s cheeky. It’s glam. And we love our fabulous news – be it Anna Wintour’s induction to the White House Committee or how food poisoning was blamed in the recent terrorist scare (yeesh – imagine being dragged out of an airplane bathroom in that moment!).
