Purple Lab & The Power Women TV Shoot!

March 23, 10

When I first met Amy Palmer (follow her on Twitter), I was filming an episode of MTV’s Made as a Coach for a kid who wanted to be a fashion reporter (Hi Josh, if you’re reading this!). The end of his makeover, he did a stint backstage, interviewing a designer at Fashion Week on a show called NY 360… with Amy.

She’s a blond hurricane of good energy, smarts and sophistication all wrapped up in one. She called me last year to tell me about her new endeavor, launching Power Women TV, an online destination dedicated to women who are doing their own thing and making a difference.

She wanted me to be in it!

Um… yes, please!

That is what the Purple Lab brand is all about at its core – empowerment. So it was an honor. We spent an afternoon talking shop in my living room – with camera crew – and a day at the lab as well.

This past Sunday, she produced photo shoot at Chelsea Piers, including some of the most amazing women NYC has to offer… to be in this group was an honor for which I’m grateful. Beyond grateful.

Gabby Bernstein, former nighclub PR girl who left it all behind for a more spiritual journey as a motivational speaker, was in the house. She just published a fanastic book called Add More ~Ing To Your Life. Here she is with Amy.

Melanie Notkin, who created Savvy Auntie, dononed a silver and white brocade frock for the occasion (you can’t miss her in the pic below – because she’s the only other one who’s the same height as I am).

Tai Beauchamp, the super tall exotic bombshell next to me, has been a friend of mine for over ten years. A former beauty editor, now philanthropist/TV personality/content diva, she brought on the glamour with her sleek sense of style (and hair cut).

There were some killer shoes, as you can see!

The best part of this whole thing, aside feeling like I was on a set with Vanity Fair, was being in an environment with such positive women who all support one another – no caddy gossip, no competition. just genuine appreciation and admiration with the kind of girls who would have shared their notes with you if you missed a class in school. It’s a rare thing to find, sadly.

I made new friends. Loved Donna D’Cruz, activist/music label exec/DJ who runs the label raSa music, bringing spiritual sounds from crystal shops to nightclubs (she has worked with one Deepak Chopra).

She and Vanessa Alfano, former TV anchor, now founder of Healthy Style New York, popped open the Moet when we wrapped up.

Also on hand: Amanda Steinberg, creator of Daily Worth, a woman’s guide to knowing your worth; Carmen Wong Ulrich, CNBC’s Personal Expert/TV personality/author; Lyss Stern of Divalysscious Moms (she is a mom bloggess with a network of almost 200,000 moms where fabulosity meets motherhood) and editrix of Observer Playground; Jennifer Walsh, who is miss beauty TV and has been doing segments on the topic for over 15 years.
I was seriously humbled to be around such women.

Must give serious props to Ana Schecter, the photographer. She turned out the chicest looking set and shot but I can’t share the final result yet – have to wait for Amy to do that! (Ana is going to be shooting a Purple Lab look book coming up as well – so excited!)

C’est Ana.

Power Women TV is launching soon. This will give you a taste.
