Purple Lab Obsessions

When I was little, I told my mom that when I grew up, I wanted to find things and tell people about them. That’s part of the reason I became a journalist and one thing I miss about not being one now.
So I thought I’d take a moment to share what I’m totally crazy obsessed with at the moment. Below, my ten favorite things.
The Spanx Bras. OMG! Have you worn one yet? The most comfortable bra I have EVER worn. The material is like Wolford hosiery soft and is made so that the surface is totally smooth, no matter how tight your top is.
Artist Shephard Fairey. First known as a street artist, doing stencil work all over city landscapes, he has really crossed the line to fine art. Years ago, Todd introduced me to him and we’re kicking ourselves for not having bought a piece when they were affordable. His latest show at Deitch (which is closing at the end of the month – RIP) is mind blowing. Obsessed. So refined and sophisticated. All portraits of rock star icons. This Debbie Harry knocked me out. It sold out in two minutes at 55k.
If you’re in NYC, please check out the show before it closes. I was blown away.
Givenchy wedgies. They’re epic. Six inches. So insane, I have no words. I cannot get over how fabulously cool and chic they are, thanks to a mix of leather and stretch jersey. I love how they’d toughen up a soft dress or work with jeans and a T. I want, I need, I have to have. I’ve tried them on, too. Very comfortable (relatively speaking, of course).
Mimobot flash drives. They’re so cute and Japanime and they always make me happy when I’m uploading documents on them. There are all sorts of character. I happen to like this one, a collaboration with the Japanese artist Tokidoki. But Hello Kitty version is a close second.
Levi Jacob Robinovitz. My nephew. He’s barely one month old right now and such a delicious mush of a baby with piercing gray-blue eyes. My brother’s bebe, but he has his mommy’s full lips. The first granchild for my parents. He makes me melt! Sorry, he’s not for sale!
Foursquare. I resisted going on Foursquare for a while. It just felt like too much – I mean, how many social networks can I handle? But I finally caved this weekend and I’m in love. It’s so fun and not at all creepy because you don’t HAVE to check in when you get somewhere. So great seeing when my friends are near me.
Feed Project’s new Feed Guatemala bags. I’ve never met an ikat print I didn’t like and this line is no exception. The brainchild of Lauren Bush and Ellen Gustafson of Feed Projects, a portion of the proceeds of each bag provides micronutrients to babies in Guatemala to help fight malnourishment. The bags were made by women artisans there. So not only is it adorable and bright, but it’s for such a good cause.
Chrome Hearts Sunglasses. Every pair has the sickest silver details on the arms that screams rocker sophistication. My mom and I both have the pair below – more subtle for the traditionally hard edged brand I love that they’re not one-seaon wonders but classic enough to last forever.
Lalanne Sheep. Artist Francoise-Xavier Lalanne became famous for his surreal animal sculptures in the 60s and he had a cult following of style makers – YSL, included. I die over them. My dream is to have a little flock in a future children’s room. But alas, they’re like $30,000 or more. So I’ll have to settle with a copy at some point.
I’ll know I’ve made it when I can collect them… and keep them outside without worrying. Oh, a girl can dream…
La Duree macaroons, shipped from Paris. If you really want to impress someone, send these French made confections which must be ordered from Paris. The packaging is as delicious as the sweet cookies within. So creative and more memorable than flowers any day.
Mwah!

P.S. I’m also totally obsessed with Rick Owens leather jackets. I couldn’t resist adding that in. The best there are, period.

Levi is one lucky duck to be born into a family where he’s loved and wanted beyond measure. Children really are a gift.
Gee, I wonder if his Aunt Karen will spoil him? Ya think?
