PURPLE BLAB

You don’t understand. I NEVER stay up late. I don’t go out. I don’t drink. I don’t do coffee. I like to be in bed NO later than 11p.m. When I heard I’d have a 2a.m. slot on HSN, I immediately panicked. How would I make it?

Lots of sugar-free Red Bull (I know it’s poison, but I had no choice). Lots!

First of all, for the slot, I got decked in purple Proenza Schouler sequins and skinny Current/Elliot jeans. Six inch heels go without saying. Hair, kind of Farrah’d out for the night.

This was the big show I was waiting for. Yes, I had already done a 9a.m. But that was kind of a warm up. The 8p.m. That was the real debut. It was where I put all of my energy as far as promotion is concerned.

C) Do you see how short I am? After this, I started sitting on two pillows!

I know I’ve been MIA but between speed dating and our HSN launch, I’ve done nothing but eat, sleep, and breathe Purple Lab. Luckily, I love my job. It has been exciting to watch Karen and Todd grow the business. What an honor to be a part of it! (Next stop: real office!)

Anyway, here’s what I was doing while Karen was in Florida for HSN. For those of you who attended the Purple Lab HSN launch party at Meet in NYC last Thursday, whether in person or on Skype or Twitter, you know it was a blast.

Friday noon was an amazing show. I felt like I was getting my groove except for the ear piece (my Jack Bower), which was bothering me so much that the inside of my ear canal started to swell. Luckily, the adrenalin rush of being on air is nature’s natural healer. 

I donned a green Lanvin party dress with a big bow at the bum along with purple patent leather six-inch heels.

See the products on stands in front of me? As we move from product to product, while the camera is focusing on the models, someone rushes in and switches them out.

February 18th, 5a.m., I woke up in a pool of sweat. In four hours, I was about to be on HSN for the first time. I couldn’t even recall the name of my foundation! And my heart sounded like a bass at a Motley Crue concert.

Everything I had worked for was about to come to fruition.

What if it failed?

Two hours before I was to hear Matt, the producer, say, ”Action,” I was in the green room, getting primped with the models.

Yesterday in Tampa Glampa, a day before the big  HSN debut, my six-inch-heels and I were with Christine, the blogger behind Temptalia, who is a love and honey sweet, all day.

She has been capturing the behind-the-scenes look at what goes into launching a brand on this massive network. The day began with a tour where I discovered aspects of the network I had no idea about.

I got to Florida yesterday morning and went right to a go-see. Still needed to find one more model, someone in her 50s and the one I found – LOVE! Sweet, beautiful, poised, sassy with a fun sparkle to her energy. It is all coming together.

HSN, here I come! And ALL of the new products are now on their site at special debut introductory prices. My heart is pounding so hard, you’d think I had a base in my chest cavity.

Definition: Party in a box (noun) - A package you send someone that is full of must-have ingredients for the receiver to host a party.

For the Purple Lab HSN launch, I am sending 30 friends – a mix of  mom, beauty and lifestyle bloggers, family, friends, the genius Harvard girls (they’re still seniors) who started Her Campus, who organized screenings on six college campuses.

Before my HSN debut, I had a chance to talk to Michael Henry, SVP Beauty Merchandising at the network. He is one of the first people I met at HSN and I immediately fell in love with him.

He is smart, engaging, funny, and he has seen it all.

So I had a little chat with him to get some advice and words of wisdom. Our conversation, below.

KR: I’m nervous – what is your best, calming tip for me before I go on hsn?

HSN is three days away! Three days. And the proof is on TV. The Guide in my cable, when I scrolled forward, shows Purple Lab on the line up! It’s real! It’s real!

I died when I saw this. Dead. On the floor! A corpse is actually writing this!

Saturday night, I went to a Fashion Week mixer, thrown by the fab Lianne Farbes of The Makeup Girl and Paul Baranda of Beyond Beauty Basics, and I saw my old intern, Lauren, who I would have loved to have hired but I had no salary money.
